First Aid for Education
First Aid Training for Schools, Nurseries, Colleges and Universities
CLX Activities are specialists in providing first aid training for clients in education. More of our clients are from the education sector than any other. A good proportion of this is Paediatric First Aid training and other first aid training for schools. As a former secondary school teacher and current outdoor learning practitioner in a primary school, Chris Leleux has many years of working in the same environment as you, with young people of the same age as your students. This helps to make our training relevant and makes it easy to give examples and scenarios specific to your workplace, helping your staff to be able to manage first aid incidents that they might realistically have to deal with.
Nurseries/Pre-school/Children's Centres
To meet the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, there must always be staff on the premises or on visits who hold an up-to-date Paediatric First Aid certificate. There must be sufficient staff with the Paediatric First Aid certificate to cover for staff absences such as holidays, training, sickness and working patterns. In addition to the care for the children, staff need to have first aid cover as well. As low risk places of employment, most nurseries will be able to have Emergency First Aid at Work training, with enough staff to cover absences caused by holidays, training, sickness and working patterns. Please note that all first aid certificates have a lifetime of three years and need to be revalidated by further training.
Primary Schools

Whilst many schools choose to give their lunchtime supervisors full Paediatric First Aid training, CLX Activities also runs shorter bespoke courses for lunchtime supervisors to give them the confidence and skills to deal with the numerous minor problems that can occur during the busiest time of the day for first aid incidents. If your school runs a Forest Schools programme, your Forest School Practitioners will need to hold the ITC Level 2 Certificate in Outdoor First Aid to keep their qualification valid. For further details, including dates for Outdoor First Aid training, see the "First Aid Training" section.

AT CLX Activities, we also run bespoke parent and child first aid training for schools. This fits in nicely with Parental Involvement programmes and can sometimes attract funding to assist with the costs. Secondary Schools
As low risk places of employment but with generally larger numbers of staff, most secondary schools will require some staff to hold a full First Aid at Work certificate, whilst additional first aiders will be able to receive Emergency First Aid at Work training, with enough staff to cover absences caused by holidays, training, sickness and working patterns. PE staff will want to focus on the particular first aid training needs that their specialism brings. Whether they need full first aid training or to top up existing knowledge with Sports Injury Management training. If your school runs adventurous activities programmes, such as school camp, or runs fieldtrips in remote locations, the teachers will benefit from Outdoor First Aid training to keep leadership qualifications valid and to give peace of mind when operating away from the main school site. At CLX Activities, we train students as well as staff. For a number of years we have run courses for sixth formers in particular, but also other age groups, to give them additional qualifications (for which funding can be available), useful life skills and extra to write about on their UCAS applications. It also ties in with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme and can be used towards the CAS requirement for the International Baccalaureate. Qualifications we have run for students include Activity First Aid, Outdoor First Aid, Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work. These are all accredited by OfQual or SQA at Level 2 and may attract funding. The new First Aid for Sport, Leisure & Exercise will meet the requirements of the CSLA course.
